The photographer Fay Godwin, who died in May 2005 and whose obituary was published in The Guardian on the 31st  of May of that year,  is probably best  known for her pictures of the British landscape, but her photos of literary figures such  Clive James, Ted Hughes and Philip Larkin show that she was capable of producing amazingly subtle portraits with her camera.

The British Library has recently acquired Fay’s photographic archive, including negatives, contact sheets and the correspondence she had with  some of her subjects, and  all of this is to be made available holders of a Library Reader Pass once it has been catalogued.

The Guardian publised a selection of 13 portraits and this introduction on Friday last.
