Just in case anyone is wondering, yes, I'm talking the John Naughton who did a stint as the Observer's TV critic. He was that paper's regular TV critic between 1987 - 1995, so, although he was considered by those of us who read him as a worthy replacement for Clive, he was not in fact Clive's immediate succesor.
John is now Professor of Public Understanding of Technology with the Open University and is a regularly featured columnist -The Networker - in the Observer's Business pages. For more on John (if you're interested) see http://www.briefhistory.com/.
