Standpoint - new poems

The latest issue of Standpoint(www.standpointmag.co.uk) contains five new poems by Clive James. A sense of mortality hangs over the best two poems - The Light As It Grows Dark and The Shadow Knows - which strike me as two of the strongest he has published. There's also a stunning short poem inspired by the movie, Shane, called Vision of Jean Arthur and the Distant Mountains.

Clive quotes himself in one of the poems!

<<I am the shadow and the widower
Because the innocent you were I slew,
But you are here, and real, and far above
My level of attainment. It is you
Who brings me back to love what we once were.>>
