A new gig for the diary: Organised by Chris Harris on behalf of the Anchor Folk Club in Woking, Surrey, this gig will be an exception to their regular Folk Club schedule of monthly Thursday events. Instead, Pete's performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 21st, in... The Coffee Lounge, St Andrews Church, Goldsworth Park Centre, Denton Way, Woking, Surrey, GU21 3LG. [ At this time the lounge will not be serving food or drink, so it will be a 'bring your own' affair. ] Admission will cost £10, cash on the door. It's not a large space, and there is no formal on-line booking, but reservations can be made by e-mail to <pawokiing2025@gmail.com> [sic*], stating name, number of reservations required, and (optionally) a contact phone number. [ * e-mail address as quoted by Chris -- we might suspect a typo and duplicate our mail to 'pawoking2025'. Chris intends to update the Club website and produce a flyer in due course, so no doubt he will include the correct address, but in any case I'll check and confirm here before adding it to the Gig Guide -- SJB ]

Pete says: "Fingers crossed the Woking e-mail address is all OK now." I think by this he means that the "pawokiing" bit was indeed a typographical error in Chris Harris's e-mail, and not in the setting-up of the address. Or the other way round(!). Either way, you should now be safe in directing your reservation requests to: pawoking2025@gmail.com Steve

Hi All, I'm largely duplicating here what I've just added to the "new member " thread but with less personal waffle. Pete's next gig is on Saturday 21st June at Andy's community cafe in Woking GU21 3LG. This is a cafe area attached to St Andrews church, Goldsworth Park and the present home of the Anchor Folk club on alternate Thursdays. Note that the cafe will not be open for food or drinks so it's a "Bring Your Own" event. (The Waitrose supermarket next door is open until 8) Entrance is £10 cash on the door There will also be a raffle (this is a folk club after all) and as usual all profits go to the artist. We aim to start as soon as possible after 7:30. There's plenty of parking in the adjacent Waitrose car park. To reserve a place or any queries please email me at PAWoking2025@gmail.com. I look forward to welcoming you to our Woking venue. Cheers, Chris, Anchor Folk Club, Woking

Back in the olden days of MV there would often be detailed reports of gigs - song lists, what I was wearing, etc. - but I think that was perhaps due to people still being slightly amazed to discover that I wasn't dead and that there were quite a few other people who were similarly amazed. These days, of course, there's probably even more reason to be slightly amazed that I'm not dead - I now share increasingly in that amazement myself - but never mind. Anyway, in case there's anyone out there among those of you who weren't able to get to Woking last Saturday who may be slightly interested in which songs I did, here's my list. Several of these songs were advance requests (actually, any request has to be in advance, come to think of it) and one or two on the night. The order may not be quite right, but I think everything's there. Master of the Revels (keyboard) Touch Has A Memory (k) Ice Cream Man (guitar) Errant Knight (g) Sunlight Gate (g) The Flowers and the Wine (k) Dancing Master (k) Beware of the Beautiful Stranger (g) Have you Got A Biro I Can Borrow? (g) --- Apparition in Las vegas (g) Thief in the Night (g) Ballad of an Upstairs Window (g) An Empty Table (k) Thirty Year Man (k) History and Geography (k) Suit of Lights (k) Laughing Boy (g) (encore) Between Us There Is Nothing (k) 'Suit Of Lights' probably needs a footnote. I recently rediscovered some antique audio cassettes containing recordings I made in 1967 and 1968 on my primitive Philips machine with a tiny microphone on the end of a flimsy lead. I was sufficiently terrified that these microscopically narrow and thin tapes would instantly degenerate into permanent unplayability that I sent them off to a bloke in the north-east who succeeded in turning most of them (not all, it must be said) into copyable and playable WAV files. Amongst the recordings were some I had made at actual Footlights Smokers (informal club concerts for members only which happened twice a term and at which members and would-be members could perform stuff they had written) where I had performed for the first time several of Clive's and my early efforts. 'Suit of Lights' was one of these. I have a feeling that it may have started life as a poem which Clive had looked at and thought that it could be a song (it has five more or less regular stanzas, each one starting with a question-and-answer idea). In the end I think Clive may have thought it was perhaps a bit over-poetical, but whatever the reason we quite simply forgot it, so thoroughly that it wasn't even on the lists for inclusion on either of the privately-pressed LPs we went on to make - or for anything else. I don't think it's a lost masterpiece, but it ain't too bad, and I thought it was worth giving it an outing, so I did it! Suit Of Lights, by the way, was the name given to the spectacularly and elaborately embroidered and decorated suit worn by the very greatest matadors. A big thankyou from me to everyone who came (some from a fair distance) and who made up such an attentive and appreciative audience. I did my best to encourage as many as possible to tell their local gig organisers that I am all too ready to make myself available for similar events. And my final note is an even larger and equally sincere thankyou to Chris Harris for having the idea and for making Saturday evening happen so enjoyably.

So glad to hear about your latest gig Pete. May they keep coming along. What a delicious playlist, along with the recently excavated Suit of Lights, which I'd love to hear one day. Thank you Chris Harris for putting on the show.
