Reminder: Pete returns to his old haunt The Lamb Folk Club in Old Town, Eastbourne, on Wednesday (20th).
No need to book -- just show up (BN21 1HH) at 7:30, grab a pint and hand over your eight quid.

The Lamb Eastbourne

Apparently it was Pete's 15th visit to The Lamb at Eastbourne yesterday (and my third). I'm not sure if there were any other MVs there but some local members of the Folk Club are well versed in the songs.
It was lovely to see and hear Pete again for the first time since the pandemic, and my move to Glasgow.
The setlist:
1. Where have they all gone? (g)
2. Practical man (g)
3. History and geography (g)
4. Frangipanni was her flower (k)
5. Canoe (k)
6. Cottonmouth (k)
7. Beware of the beautiful stranger (g)
8. Rainwheels (k)
9. Between us there is nothing (k)
10. Senior citizens (g)
11. Girl on the train (g)
12. Teddy bears' picnic (k)
13. I've got me to thank (k)
14. Together at last (g)

History and geography and Between us there is nothing were the highlights for me, both beautiful. It was good to hear Together at last for the first time.
The Teddy bears' picnic was a new and probably temporary addition to the repertoire. This was not a light fluffy children's version but changed rhythmically to something very creepy and quite sinister, which it is if you think about the lyrics.

Thanks Pete!

Please could someone repost the setlist on Facebook for me?

What a great surprise to see Jan at the Lamb. I'll post a bit more shortly, but in the meantime I have to go back to the hospital briefly, because what Jan didn't tell you is that in the course of the set-up on Wednesday I slipped and toppled over onto a table, landing on my left arm, which I'd clearly hurt quite badly.   I carried on (as you've seen from the setlist) but with quite a few changes and adjustments.  Long story short, I had broken the main bone in my left forearm and I now have a full-arm cast.  It should mend OK, but it'll be at least two and maybe uo to six weeks.  That's rock and roll!   Apparently!

Good grief! Not just a sprain then.
I hope it heals up quickly.
Take care

a poem of thanks to Pete atkin at Eastbourne (to the tune of girl on a train, obvs)

what did I do last weekend well I’ll tell you in brief
8 quid from online and I got to Eastbourne with relief
and slowly, unsurely Pete Atkin came on to rehearse
Falling head over heels and almost leaving the gig in a hearse

he was singing his songs that take in every word that Clive wrote
and there in  the song gaps he made an [expletive]  type note
and I couldn’t deduce why he didn’t once call for a nurse
as fathom by fathom he gradually drowned in  a curse

But he kept on the job of improving  his fanbase’s brains
plowing steadily onwards through erudite mr Clive James
While no further than seven foot six from my front of house seat
played the leading “young” musical hope of the whole planet earth

Well apart from the chance of Pete Atkin accepting a cheque
and  taking a rain check, to stop him from being a wreck
to boldly stop playing was not in his power
and so he kept playing  with his hand broke for over an hour

Well at last the time came and as straight as Pete Atkins left hand
I got up and moved like a dreamer away from the band.
and unless he remembers the day he was singing Clive James
about  second class carriages which I still cannot explain
Pete wont know its  us that were happy again and again
again and again

Nice, Mark! Quite a while since we've had a 'parody lyric' -- this deserves a place in the discography's "alternative lyrics" column. I see we have a couple of Girl On The Train entries already, but I'm sure I can squeeze in another one. Smiley

Pete didn't mention it, but before boarding his train home on Thursday he visited an old friend (the writer Frederic Raphael) in west London, lugging his guitar and backpack, so quite the exhausting day. And it wasn't until Friday he had the damage assessed and treated at hospital in Bristol.
