Following on from the Pheasantry announcement, it seems the gig drought might be well and truly broken, with a new solo appearance, this time in the south-west: the city of Exeter on Wednesday, 24th September. Member Steve Brown has been busy organising the event at his local venue The Mermaid since before the latest Chelsea news, so the temporal near-coincidence is, well, coincidental. I should let Steve introduce it himself: "The location is downstairs at the Mermaid (aka the Refuge) club with entrances in Queen Street & Gandy Street, in Exeter city centre. This is a cosy club-style venue with a stage and its own bar. Access is via stairs at the Gandy Street entrance to the club -- there is no disabled access. If you are coming by train, the Mermaid is just a four-minute walk from Exeter Central station, and a 17-minute walk from Exeter St Davids. "Tickets will be £12 in advance. Doors will open at 7pm. "Pete will play from 7.45 and there will be an interval of up to 25 mins, during which you can buy from a small selection of merchandise (cash only). The finish will be around 10, but the bar will stay open for another hour at least. Seating will be cabaret-style at the front, with additional seating at the rear. Capacity is limited to 50. "If you wish to secure tickets please email me at <vanished.venues@gmail.com>, letting me know how many you want, and I will reply with details of how to pay. If you have any other queries just email them to me at the same address. "I hope that you will be able to come along to enjoy this rare performance by Pete. Please pass details on to anyone else you think could be interested in a great evening of music!" With such a detailed announcement, need I say more? Looks a fine downtown location -- more photos in the Gig Guide, soon. Many thanks, Steve, for setting this up. -- SJB
