Programme details

Afternoon sessions :

2.00 p.m. - 3.00 p.m. Pete Atkin - ‘An audience with’ session, followed by some songs.

3.00 p.m. - 3.45 p.m. I C and A Joker - MV Ian Chippett plus a scaled-down version of Les Beaux Changeurs form a duo especially for today’s event. The set will consist entirely of their own original compositions.

3.45 p.m. - 4.00 p.m. Interval for tea/coffee

4.00 p.m. - 4.15 p.m. Julian the Juggler - MV Julian brings his skills of legerdemain to Hebden Bridge. Hold on to your beard if you’re in the front two rows: audience participation may be required . . .

4.15 p.m. - 5.00 p.m. Andy Victor - The SeaMonkeys - MV Andy, singer and song- writer in his own right, is joined by fellow SeaMonkey Nigel. Those who heard Andy last year at Milton Keynes can expect a folkier sound than his solo style.

5.00 p.m. - 5.45 p.m. Robb Johnson - an established and respected name on the acoustic and folk circuits both in Britain and in Europe. His recent appearance with Pete at the Vortex Jazz Club got such glowing reviews from the MVs who attended that we wanted more of you to have the chance to hear his powerful, perceptive songs.

6.00 p.m. Break for supper at the White Lion, Hebden Bridge
[This is the White Lion Hotel in Bridge Gate, the centre of HB,
not the White Lion Hotel, Mytholmroyd, and
not the White Lion Inn, Heptonstall! -- SJB]

Supper arrangements :

The White Lion is approximately 5 mins walk from the Picture House. Approximately 50+ MVs have expressed interest in supper there. This means we have overflowed the function room, but this isn’t a problem - I have arranged to pre-book additional tables elsewhere in the pub. It is a former mediaeval manor farm, sympathetically preserved by an imaginative brewery, and has lots of nice little rooms - smoking or non-smoking.

Due to logistical difficulties, I’ve decided against an inclusive ticket price. The White Lion has a very comprehensive bar menu including several vegetarian options, and I decided that it is easier for them, and offers more choice for you, if we all simply order from that and pay the White Lion directly.

To streamline the process of ordering, I will be publishing the menu via email in early September. If you can then select in advance and email your food orders to me, I will then place an advance order with them. This will save us time on the night and help them cope with the numbers. They are all very nice people at the White Lion and have been most interested in Pete and in seeing you all. (Oh yes, and the guest beers are dead good too.)

Evening session :

7.30 p.m. Guest artist Wizz Jones - Wizz is a legend of British folk music and an amazing guitarist. Those who have heard him before at Milton Keynes are bound to want to hear more: those who haven’t are in for a treat!

8.15 p.m. Pete!

10.30 p.m. Finish

Ticket prices

This year, the prices have been based on the two-tier structure of the event, with the afternoon event for MVs only, and the evening concert open to the public as well. That means that, for the evening session, we’ve had to be guided by the normal pricing structure for live events at the cinema - hence any major differences from last year.

Type 1
Voices and guests Adult £7.50        Child £1.50
(entitles you to the entire day even if you can only make the evening)

Type 2
General Public Adult £8.50        Concessions £6.50
(evening only)

Booking

For various reasons we are not going to be able to handle the ticket processing ourselves. Fortunately the magnificent Andy Love has stepped seamlessly into the firing line, so he is the man to contact regarding payment. His contact details are:

Andy Love
73, Arlott Crescent

Milton Keynes

Email a.love@virgin.net

The correct procedure now is for you to email your requirements to Andy and send him a cheque, payable to ‘Friends of Midnight Voices Group’. Andy has been asked to handle all booking enquiries until we return from holiday on 1 September - we would advise that if you would like to go, you make your booking by then since it looks like local interest is going to be healthy. Please include an S.A.E.

Best wishes
