Christmas shopping

With Xmas on the way, I decided to pop into the Virgin Shop at La Défense to see what I might buy myself for a present. Two observations arose from this visit: 1. I still don't know what to buy myself. Any ideas? and 2. Are record shops like that everywhere else? No Beach Boys AT ALL, one Randy Newman (filed under "N" and not "Newman) only 2 Elton John CDs and not even a thingy marked "Coltrane." There was one Coltrane CD "Giant Steps" misfiled under "Davis." Regardless what one might think of Coltrane or Elton John or the others, they are still sellable, I would have thought. Needless to say, my token flip through the "A"'s was as usual fruitless. It wasn't like this in my day, I can tell you. You could buy practically everything at the Virgin shop at the Haymarket in Bristol in the 70's including bootlegs. Not surprised the record business is going down the drain if what I saw is anything to go buy.

Hi Ian, yes, record shops are pretty depressing places these days. But don't forget, all the good stuff is still available online (Amazon takes some beating) at knock-down prices. Also You Tube has performances by just about everyone.

If you haven't heard Giant Steps (the track) take a listen. Mind blowing sax playing.

That'll be because everywhere is downhearted at the news that the bright, shiny, feature- and extra-packed Pete Atkin reissue CDs on the Edsel label won't be available till after Chrissie, I expect.  More news v. soon.

Excellent - this is what to buy with the inevitable tokens. Edsel, of course, was the sixties Ford car that was a complete disaster. Not an omen, I trust.

Yes, I'd spotted that.  But the name doesn't seem to have damaged the prospects of the label.  (That may have been waiting for me.)  As you'll see from their artist roster, I'm in some pretty good goshderned company - http://www.demonmusicgroup.co.uk/content/59.chtml.  I'll get a newsletter out by the end of the weekend with a bit of luck with some more details.

Pretty good company, yes, including, I note, Black Funk Rex, and another artiste who would be ripe for ridicule in a noughties Live Libel (any chance?), Daniel O'Donnell. Smiley

With some minor modifications,  Apparition in Las Vegas fits the bill. Daniel is the "King of Rock and Roll" writ small.
