There is some discussion as to the validity (or otherwise) of this 'research', on the following page: http://www.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk/personal/matt.davis/Cmabrigde/ Some interesting counterarguments made about half way down. One of the best examples of how this doesn't always work is the sentence: Quote:A dootcr has aimttded the magltheuansr of a tageene ceacnr pintaet who deid aetfr a hatospil durg blendur |
| Snopes (a generally good resource for debunking urban myths, although not infallible themselves) also has a few comments on the original source, which doesn't appear to have been Cambridge University.

Don't know about the soundness of any theory but doen't this simply demonstrate the idea of redundancy (sticking more stuff in than is strictly necessary)? My dictionary tells me it's an engineering term although I first met it studying information systems.

| Which may explain why some information systems practitioners style themselves "information engineers"; something I would never dare do since my father (mechanical engineer in the aviation and later automotive industries) was quite vexed by the very concept. Theo

Would that make me a cogitation engineer, a publication engineer, a dormition engineer or some combination of the above? Regard, Phil C (Your friendly resident English student...)
