Postcards on TV

Just spotted in the listings: after months of repeating the four Clive James in Japan/Dallas/Las Vegas and on Safari specials, the Sky Travel and Sky Travel Extra channels have switched to repeating the Postcards series. Unfortunately this began in November.

Rio was shown on Sky Travel on 14th & 15th Nov and repeated 6 days later on Sky Travel Extra. Thereafter, on a weekly basis, came Paris, Chicago and Miami. We can still catch Miami on its repeat on the Extra channel on 11th Dec at 23:00, also 12th at 08:30 and 14:00.

Rome is broadcast on Sky Travel on the 12th at 19:30, repeated 13th at 05:00 and 12:00, then on Extra 18th and 19th, times as per previous paragraph -- that's six opportunities to catch each one. Make a note now! The following weeks will see Los Angeles, Bombay, London, Cairo, New York and Sydney. Current Digiguide listings run only to the end of January, so I'm not sure whether the series continues.

I believe Sky Travel is broadcast only on the Sky Digital satellite network, channel 139. Sky Travel Extra is on ch.140.

Sky Travel (but not Extra) is also available on the digital terrestrial TV platform Freeview, channel 11. [If you need a good set-top box I can vouch for the SetPal models, forty quid from Tesco (Daewoo brand) or Sainsbury's (Portland)].

Is that because you designed them?

Not directly: they're good, in part because of my design involvement; I can recommend them because they're good Wink. [There are other products on the market that have my tuners, but labour under flaky software].

Incidentally I'm told most Tesco stores have sold out of the Labgear and Daewoo SetPals, and the BT branded units (superior styling, ex Radio Times offer) are all gone. Don't buy the Daewoo Freeway -- it's from a different design house.

Stoking up the old Digibox, I see Digiguide was out of date: there are now three versions of Sky Travel, meaning 9 opportunities to see each Postcard from...! The one I missed was a "Plus 1" version of the basic service, an hour delayed. On the Sky platform, the correct channel numbers are:
Sky Travel (basic) -- 139
Sky Travel +1       -- 140
Sky Travel Extra    -- 141
