Looks like a logical step.

I don't have broadband, so won't be accessing the site very often.

Any chance of continuing some sort of events publicity via the old list?

Looking forward to PoD!

I'm sure I'll get used to the new format.  I find that the older I get the harder it is to change!  One immediate benefit I think I see is that one can go to an area of known interest without reading those messages of little interest (to me); on the other hand, this also means that I'll certainly miss some interesting ideas in the messages I don't think will interest me.  Nobody's perfect!

So, Good for you, Steve.

I suppose I'll get used to it but it doesn't seem as easy to use as looking at e-mails. I suspect consequently I may very quickly become a lapsed MV.

Would it be possible to change the order of postings so that the latest postings are shown first and you don't have to scroll down, sometimes through pages of previoiusly read postings, to get to the new items. This could become a big problem as there are already multiple pages on some of the fora. (is this the plural of Forum?)

John: the message order is chronological to make it easier to read forwards through a thread and make sense of replies to earlier comments; the thread order is reverse chronological because it is more important to spot the most recently updated first.

If message order is a problem for you, may I suggest you use the links from the Information Summary section, in which the postings are reverse-chronologically ordered. Note also that, when a thread spans multiple pages, there's a page number list in the board's index of threads which enables you to jump to the last page.

Great job Steve

I like the new format, I have broadband at home but work away a lot, this will give me the opportunity to keep up while I am away.

See lots of you at PoD/ToD

regards

The ten most recent list takes you to the new posting and not to the top or bottom of the thread which is a great time saver. Once you're in the thread at the oldest message you haven't read you can go down through all the new messages on that thread.
If there are more than 10 new posts then at the bottom of the ten most recent posts section there is a link to the 500 most recent posts.  You have to go back to the 10/500 list to look for each updated thread which is a bit challenging today but  most weeks it will be quite easy.

Ultimately, I welcome anything that helps Steve.  My only reservation about the new forum is the public nature of the postings.  There are things that I am happy to write to the old e-mail list that I am not prepared to publish in a format that can be found by anyone with Google.  That said, I can still write private e-mails to individual Voices and the purpose of all this is to promote the work of Pete and Clive.

After all the work Steve puts in I feel seriously churlish to say anything against the new site but I do miss all the stuff dropping into the mail box on Sundays.

I was reading the "hate it" thread and came across people who found the list of last 500 posts slow to load. The answer, I believe, is to press "shift" and then click on the link. This opens the link in a new window. When you have finished it close the window and the 500 post screen is still there.

As the posts were August though, you all probably know that by now.

Hi there!

No....I didn't know that.
And it's very useful too, isn't it?

Good grief....still learning....every day.
Thanks!
