Title: Screen Freak
Post by Ian Chippett on Today at 08:21
The old year got off to a flying stop last night when I saw "The Maltese Falcon" and later I'm going to see "Broken Lance." Found them in the local library. I wonder if anyone has seen all the films cited in "Screen Freak" apart from Clive?

Happy New Year.

I 'm pretty certain that I have seen all (http://www.peteatkin.com/c9a.htm) except Comin' Thro'(ugh) the Rye(1947)

Quote:
Comin' Thro' the Rye is the life story of 18th century Scottish poet Robert Burns. Within an incredibly brief 55 minutes, director Walter C. Mycroft manages to pack most of the significant events in Burns' existence, "illustrating" certain transitional scenes with still pictures and narration, and throwing 19 songs based on Burns' best works into the stew. Most of the film is shot silent, utilizing actual locations and nonprofessional actors. Burns himself is played by Terrence Alexander, who seems to have been cast primarily on the basis of his resemblance to the original. More of a valentine to the Robert Burns Society than a feature film, Comin' Thro' the Rye was evidently never intended for a mass audience. ~

I did not mention the film when writing the original notes because I actually thought that Clive might have had this cartoon (http://archive.org/details/CartoonCominThroTheRye) made by Fleischer Studios (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fleischer_Studios). If that is what he had in mind, then I cannot think of one I'd not seen before the song was written. Yes spent a lot of my free time in the cinema. My excuse is that cinema was about the only art form we had where I grew up.
