Crikey indeed. You can't win them all.

I probably shouldn't even bother saying this, not least because Rob Spence has it just about right, I think (in the Islamists thread), and it probably doesn't -- shouldn't -- need saying, but the Crikey bloke neither demonstrates nor proves anything at all except his own irrational or irrelevant prejudices.  He is entitled to his opinion, of course, but it's of no more interest than, for example, my own indifference to licorice.  It is exactly the kind of rubbishing that can be applied with little effort to anyone or anything at all.  It would take no more than ten minuites to knock out a similar piece on the subject of, say, Richard Thompson, Randy Newman, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, or whoever, but it would mean nothing.  The bottom line is:  no one who might actually deserve this kind of treatment is ever likely in practice to receive it.

And he knocks "The Remake". I love that book. Clive would possibly disagree with me, but I love "Brilliant Creatures" even more.

In fact I've brainwashed my nearest and dearest to such an extent that we have a whole series of family in-jokes based on lines from both books. " Ere, you've a sinus", "My wife no sleep, my children no sleep", and so on.
