Title: Clive James for Poet Laureate Post by Tiny_Montgomery on Today at 20:27 Angels Over Elsinore: Collected Poems 2003-2008 was reviewed in the Daily Telegraph on Saturday (April 18). Critic Jeremy Noel-Tod awards the collection four stars - compared with just two to Poet Laureate Andrew Motion's latest book, The Cinder Path. Noel-Todd comments that (James's) "facility for turning unfussy verses on just about any occasion, and his knack for neat lines and rhymes, would make him an ideal Poet Laureate... Verse writing is another literate skill that is dying out, but James shows that it is still the place to start if you want to make words memorable in themselves." |
