It's good to see Pete's face on the cover of Clive's latest book of essays, The Revolt of the Pendulum - Essays 2005-2008 (Picador, £15.99). Pete's photograph is taken from the cover of The Lakeside Sessions and joins other partial images of Kingsley Amis, Tommy Cooper, Camille Paglia et al, who are all discussed within. Good too to see the programme note for the 2004 Song Show tour of Australia, plus his Guardian piece from April 1, 2008. Both pieces are accompanied by new postscripts, exploring such matters as the Winter Spring and Midnight Voices albums and Jake Thackray. The book is typically catholic, covering everything from John Bayley to Nikki Lauda to A.D. Hope. Essential stuff.

Just arrived, and I've been spending my lunch hour reading selections.  I wish more writers would add postscripts when they collect their fugitive pieces together for book publication.  Not only does this add value to the collection, by offering material unpublished elsewhere, but it also offers fascinating insights into the routines and procedures of a professional writer. One of the postcripts contains a shameless plug for Midnight Voices (the CD, not us). Another reveals that CJ habitually starts writing an obituary when one of his contemporaries dies, knowing he'll probably be asked.
This is another well produced Picador volume.  Spotting  the faces on the cover- PA, Damon Hill, Kingsley Amis, Tommy Cooper, Camille Paglia, Denis Healey (?) is a good game. Shows once again the astonishing eclecticism of the man.

And have ordered on Amazon Prime at half -price. Hope this doesn't impact too much on the royalties.

If you're an inveterate Amaxon orderer, can wholly reccomend Am-Prime. Whatever you order comes the next day without fail.

Clive or a £0.99 cable - free of charge the next day.

What can I say? And I'm not paid for saying this - just a satisfied customer....

Mind you, Clive's book had better come PDQ!
