....and even with Music Match I can't get Pete  :(

I guess he will have to stay on those precious bits of vinyl and those now outdated CDs  :D

Reading the information in The Times today it seems that unless you are on one of the four major record labels you will not be on the iCloud.  So where does that leave specialist music tastes?  On the faithful old media of vinyl and CD.

Anything that is for sale on iTunes can be matched.  But specialist tastes have always been left behind, I am afraid

a more disturbing fact from the Times article is that Apple controls over 85% of all music downloads, this coming from only the major record companies.

I remember well the transition from Reel to Reel through 8track and Cassette to DAT, and on viynl from single and albums through to CD's, these changes were slow and allowed each new genre to work alongside the old.

My concern is that the Majors have it within their power to cease physical production and disemination of music and rely purely on digital downloads.

what then for the idependant free spirits who don't fit into an accountants report?

Bogus Trumper makes a very good point, we wouldn't be here having this discussion if steve B had not pushed the boundaries and set up the forum.

Quality will always find a way of shining through, so its not beyond the realms of belief that
even if the big 4 did try to freeze out everyone else, then site such as pirate bay and other p2p sites could in fact emerge for individual artist or labels.
