The Lockdown Series, continued

Here's another very early James/Atkin song:

This one didn't make it onto any of the demo albums -- the lyric on Smash Flops dates from Pete's run-through of a few songs at Dale House Farm on the eve of his first Monyash gig in 1997. I'll see if we can get the chords up there as well. On this video, made as ever with Simon Wallace, it's in E flat -- Pete plays it as in D, with capo on the first fret.

The go-away man
This really is a rare one, one I didn't expect to hear again. I heard it around 1970 when Julie Covington sang it on the ITV series The Party's Moving On and I think the programme must have been repeated because my memory of it is quite clear.
Looking back at the gig setlists, it did see the light of day on 27th April 2000 at the Cider House, Chichester. That was a month before I first saw Pete live, with Clive James at St George's Bristol.
Thanks Pete!

Thanks Pete, this is wonderful.  I haven’t heard it before but somehow it seems familiar.

Many thanks for this Lockdown series.
I also remember the lovely Julie Covington singing this on "The Party's Moving On" in that wonderful, clear voice of hers.
That was back in a time when television was prepared to find a place for such programmes, before viewing figures were all important.
It was a short, late night slot but I remember thinking how wonderful it was to find such a gem. The music, lyrics and singing were superb and I was hooked and have always been grateful for my good fortune at catching the series.
If only one of the many digital channels repeating the same old stuff would repeat this instead.

It's a shame the Pheasantry gig in November has been cancelled, but I cannot blame Pete for being careful in these strange times we find ourselves in.
Take care everyone.

Thank you again gentlemen, for another achingly beautiful number, which I've not heard before. And yes Robert, I too hear echoes of other songs, from the Lakeside Series I think. What a treat!
Good health to all.
