Lest the fact of its existence escape anyone here, I should mention the recent Cherry Tree CD reissue of this landmark album. On the Smash Flops front page I have today written:

Julie Covington's first (1971) album has now been reissued by Cherry Red Records on their Cherry Tree label, six years after we sold the final copies of the (1999) See For Miles version. This time the booklet includes complete lyrics to all of the songs, plus newly written notes from Pete Atkin, producer Don Paul, arranger Don Fraser and from Julie herself, along with track by track comments.

Don't overlook this record! Those new to Pete's music might wonder why Julie is getting a plug here, but this album deserves acclaim on a par with Pete's Beware Of The Beautiful Stranger. Julie worked closely with Pete and with Clive James whilst at Cambridge, and contributed richly to their Footlights revues and the two privately pressed demo abums of their songs. Subsequently, EMI's recognition of her vocal and interpretive talent took her to Abbey Road, Morgan and Spot Studios, where in collaboration with some of the same high-class rock session musicians later to be employed by Pete, she recorded these 13 songs, 11 of them Atkin/James originals.

The new CD is true to the original LP concept, without the bonus tracks of SFM's ...Plus version. The rear tray insert with track listing is in fact a facsimile of the original Columbia Records LP sleeve. This release is not stocked by Hillside Music, but may be ordered on line from Amazon or other retail outlets.

It is available as either CD or MP3 download from Amazon, and well worth the investment too.  Being impatient to hear it in full, I opted for the download option.

Though he had no great gifts of personality or mind, he was quite well respected.
