Can anyone point me to the song (and album) containing the lyric "There are Helicopters on the Walls of Troy"?
I taped it from the radio sometime around 1973 but the tape is long since lost.
Lovely song... Smiley

Hello and welcome!  (from a relative Fresher myself),

The track is "The Last Hill Which Shows You All The Valley" from Pete's album A King At Nightfall, which you can purchase via this site and which I would thoroughly recommend you do.

Regards,

Douglas

Thanks Douglas
That's solved a very old mystery for me.
I have Beautiful Stranger and Secret Drinker, but that was all the PA albums I came across until now.
Cheers! Smiley

Well, you have come to the right place for all things Atkin. Have a look at the website, which will tell you all you need to know, and even lets you search through lyrics...

The track should have read "The Last Hill  _That_  Shows You All The Valley".
Thought that my earlier post didn't look right!  Embarassed
Anyway...Enjoy!!

Many years ago I played the track in the car, and the reaction from my children to the line in question was, "Whoa! Deep!" Of course that was in the days when they would be seen dead in the same vehicle as their parents.

I think they were probably right though, it is deep.

"A King at Nightfall" has long been my favourite Atkin album - with all due respect to all the others - and particularly since I am also very fond of Pete's revisited tracks on Midnight Voices.  I am sure it all depends on the context in which every "favourite"  album, or especially highly-regarded tracks,  were first heard and enjoyed.

"The Last Hill that Shows..." is one of the stand-out tracks on an album of very fine songs.  Of course, the title track is something rather special as well...not to mention...oh dear... I'm off again!

Best to all.........

I don't make a habit of raining on anyone's parade, but much as I like AKAN as a whole, I've always felt 'The LAst Hill . . .' was an example of Clive/Pete trying too hard. A bit like 'The Wall of Death' - some great ideas in there, but really  -so many, and pushed so hard.

BTW I'm a dyed in the wool Atkin fan in possession of my original vinyl copies of all the albums, and I hope of all my faculties - though they say you're the last to know.
