Whatever happened to the MV music library? Can we bring that back?

I fear that the answer to this quetion is 'no'.  My understanding is that Pete was never entirely happy about the MV CD LIbrary although he allowed it as MV was a closed group of declared enthusiasts.  The library closed following a gross indiscretion by an individual where one of the CDs was offered for sale, I believe on ebay.

Good grief, did it? I'm not sure I remember hearing anything about this gross indiscretion, or else I've suppressed it. Do you know who was involved?

I remember there was a case of an entry for one of the discs getting into the online database CDDB (see MV7245) -- this was a betrayal of trust on one member's part (I don't think we ever found out who, or how) which caused some upset. Could it be this you're thinking of?

The Members' Library ran from May 1999 to November 2001, and was administered with great efficiency, responsiveness and devotion by Andy Love. Regular usage statistics were published in MV. 15 CD titles were available, including the two demo albums WTML and TPMO, the recordings of Pete at Monyash FoDs 1997 and 1999, The Beautiful Changers' tribute set from FoD99, Pete's afternoon covers set from the same event, a double CD of Pete's BBC radio sessions from the '70s, songs from the occasional "Moonshine on..." radio series with Dai Davies, Kevin Howlett's Smash Flops radio programme of 2000, and six classic concert recordings including Pete's first solo gig at Sittingbourne College in 1969, which included an early version of The Ties That Bind You.

Those of you with access to the old Members' Area on the Website will find the CDs listed and illustrated (for a few more weeks) at

Well, I s'pose it could be a case of Chinese whispers.  I don't know who was involved but I remember learning of this 'event' (events that don't occur are still events?) well as I was so gobsmacked at the audacity of it.  I also remember that the CD had been described as 'very rare' (no doubt about that, anyway!)

Choice selections from the CD library are still currently available in real audio format on the CD library page - link quoted above (although it should be noted that links are to the song - not necessarily to a particular recording eg all the icons for Master of The Revels link to the Kenny Everett introduced version-  nevertheless many of them play alternatives to the official releases) And well worth hearing they are!

The CD library was a wonderful thing - and it seems to me a sad reflection on our human nature that someone should act against it's well-intentioned endeavour !
