I haven't seen any recent mention of Pete's gig at The Lamb Folk Club, Eastbourne tomorrow night.

It was postponed last year due to unforeseen circumstances. Sorry I can't make it  :'(

Very good gig at The Lamb last night. Good floor spots and two excellent sets from Pete. Packed, appreciative audience in very hot room; lovely friendly atmosphere. Relaxed folk club atmosphere, so less of a "formal performance" than The Pheasantry. As usual, all my favourites (apart from all the others!)

Set list:
Have you got a biro I can borrow (guitar)
Ice cream man (keyboard)
Dancing master (k)
Thief in the night (g)
The way you are with me (k)
Canoe (k)
Thirty year man (k)
Carnations on the roof (g)
Girl on the train (g)

Interval
Time to burn (k)
Touch has a memory (k)
Stranger in town (g)
Perfect moments (k)
Screen-freak (k)
The flowers and the wine (g)
The king is dead (that was the way to be alive) (k) (heard by some of us at The Pheasantry)
The colours of the night (g)
Laughing boy (g) (singalong chorus)
The wristwatch for a drummer (g) (encore)

Yes thanks indeed Kate!  Sounds great, I'm sorry to have missed it - but very glad the gigs are continuing  :)

As others have already said, a lovely gig from Pete on Wednesday. After the splendid Pheasantry gigs with Simon Wallace, the Lamb gig felt more familiar. Fish and chips by the pier then on to a packed Lamb Folk Club, Jane Willshaw, Heather and I have done the same run in the past. The gig was popular, pretty much a sell out. Kate Crooks has given a comprehensive set list, so I won't repeat it. Pete disclosed during the set that he was first booked by the same club and same promoter in 1976, which must be something of a record. Personal highlight was Stranger in town, I can't remember the last time Pete played that live. Maybe Janice could answer that? When Pete played for us at WM Jazz in 2013 Heather and I bought a bicycle bell in case Pete played Wristwatch for a drummer. I remember it well, the shop we bought it from, trying several bells for the right tone to the bemusement of the sales assistant. When I remember I take it to Pete's gigs, but of course forgot it on Wednesday, when it could have been pressed into service. Notwithstanding, a splendid time was had by all.

Thank you so much to everyone who came to the Lamb in Eastbourne last week.   They were an excceptionally kind crowd, hugely indulgent to an old codger fumbling his way around, fumbling and codging.  Playing on me tod made me appreciate all the more what a luxury it is to have that nice Mr Wallace backing me up at the Pheasantry, but it was a treat nevertheless.   And a big extra thank to Nick Westcott whose loyalty and geniality and persistence have been unfailing for (gasp) well over forty years.  How remarkable to be able to say that, and how remarkable that I've been a consistent beneficiary.

I'm never sure if I've picked the right combination of songs, but the setlist seemed to go down OK, even if it didn't include Beware Of The Beautiful Stranger this time.  (Mind you, I think that with this audience I could have just played the chords and they would have sung it for themselves.  There's a thought.)

Thank you all again.

Sorry John, I'm afraid I haven't kept the song spreadsheet up-to-date since about 2010, although I do have a pile of setlists in the desk drawer! My last recorded sighting of Stranger in Town was at the Lamb Folk Club, Eastbourne on 21st January 2009 and before that at the Rose and Crown Walthamstow in May 2005. Quite a rarity as you say! Unlike Beware of the beautiful stranger which nearly always puts in an appearance at this particular venue :)

Thanks Janice. I do remember Pete playing it live before. I wasn't at Eastbourne in 2009, so it could have been Walthamstow in 2005.
