Title: Welcome Message
Post by Gerry Smith on Today at 17:37
Hello and welcome to the gigs section of the Midnight Voices web forum.  Firstly, thanks to our 'ubermoderator' Steve Birkill for his leap of faith in asking me to moderate this plot of the board. There are few ground rules other than the obvious.  Let's keep it clean, fair and above the belt.  And of course relevant to the subject of Pete's gigs.  Of course, any completely irrelevant spam postings will be instantly removed.

My name is Gerry Smith and I've been with the old email-based MV since day one in the summer of 1997.  At that time, I thought, in common with many of us that Pete had faded into oblivion and that I was the only person who remembered his music and still played his records.  Well how wrong I was.  The cumulative total membership of Midnight Voices, (for those who don't know, the email based discussion group dedicated to the songs of Pete Atkin and Clive James set up and run by Steve Birkill in 1997) reached nearly 1000 and now that the group has refocussed as an open web based forum, that number can only grow.

The gigs forum is about  Pete's gigs, concerts and TV/radio appearances.  All and any aspects. When did you first see Pete play and where?  What impressions or recollections do you have? Maybe you wrote a review or have a copy of a review written by someone else?  Who has seen Pete live the most times ? (stand up Alan Manton...???)  Perhaps you have some old recordings of the LWT shows 'The Party's Moving On' and 'What Are You Doing After The Show?  Are you a musician who has appeared live with Pete or shared the same bill?  It would be great to hear from folks who saw Pete and Clive James during their 2003 tour of the UK, Hong Kong and Australia.  Of course, news of forthcoming appearances will be posted on this forum well in advance.  So please don't hesitate to write a review and post it here.

Last but not least, a tip for first time posters.  Don't make the same mistake I made half an hour ago and attempt to post a message without a subject line.  The bulletin board will show a page telling you a subject is required and when you hit the back button on your browser, your message will have disappeared!

Looking forward to reading your 'gigs' postings.

Best to all

Gerry Smith
