Great news for Midlanders: Pete makes a welcome return to the Kitchen Garden Café in Kings Heath, Birmingham on February 24th, a Sunday. Tickets are already on sale at wegottickets.com.

If you'd like to go, don't delay -- current availability is just 34 tickets.

For updates, see the live version of this entry in the Smash Flops Gig Guide.

A little rant from me, folks. Please forgive, and note that I do not commence my monologue with the inappropriate conjunction "so".
I start off by trying to arrange a gig for Pete in my home area. Despite a definite venue, and guaranteed financial support from myself and another supporter, that idea comes to naught [no blame, incidentally, implied of anyone].
I then think to myself "Well, at least I need to see Pete in live performance again". Therefore, I book for Alstonefield. This trip will involve a journey of over four hours in the camper van.
Subsequently, we learn that Pete is playing in Birmingham, close to my old haunts. I could have attended via public transport with relatively little hassle.
I then learn that bad weather is predicted for March [Berwick was actually shut off for a spell that time last year].
I therefore ask myself:-
1. What have I done to upset God?
2. Is there a line in Clive's lyrics to reflect my feelings [now that could be the basis for a competition amongst MV members]?
It's all a larf, innit?

Kitchen Garden Cafe - setlist

What a good crowd you were - some familiar and some unfamiliar faces (all most welcome) - and what a friendly place to play once again.  Bigt thanks to Julia Parsons once again for setting it up, and big thanks to everyone for coming, some from quite a distance.

Julia was keen the evening should have a bit of a Q&A element, and as a result of my nattering the setlist changed quite a bit from my planned one.  The result is that I'm not certain this is all in the right order (maybe someone who was there can put it right), but I'm pretty certain that everything I did is here --

Laughing Boy (guitar)
Payday Evening (g)
Screen-Freak (keyboard)
Nothing Left To Sat (k)
Stranger in Town (g)
The Way You Are With Me (g)
The Trophies of my Lovcers Gone (p)
Beware of the Beautiful Stranger (g)
----
Little Sammy Speedball (g)
The Last Hill (g)
History and Geography (p)
Winter Spring (p)
An Empty Table (p)
Perfect Moments (p)
Thirty Year Man (p)
Master of the Revels (p)
+
The Flowers and the Wine
Wristwatch for a Drummer

Thanks, Kevin.  I'd never have come up with that running order - I didn't remember that long sequence of piano songs, for instance -  but I trust you 100%!

And quite rightly!
It would seem there were a number of people [there on Sunday] with whom I have shared views and comments over the years.
Perhaps we should wear name badges!!
Or perhaps not...

I've just added to the Website a short (21-minute) audio clip of Pete's response to a question from an audience member, on how the James/Atkin songwriting collaboration would operate. Pete illustrates his remarks using 'An Empty Table' and 'Perfect Moments' as examples.

You can hear the excerpt by clicking the PLAY button in the Gig Guide entry for the Kitchen Garden Café. Thanks to Kevin Cryan for the recording.

For anyone who's interested, I've now added (thanks again to Kevin) the complete soundtrack to Pete's Kitchen Garden 'Eight O'Clock Rock Chat' to the website's Discography page. Scroll down the to bottom of the right-hand 'Music Player' column, the Playlist headed 'Interviews, Podcasts' and select either set -- they're labelled Pt.1 and Pt.2.

For what it's worth, following a slightly puzzling exchange with Pete at the Kitchen Garden gig, and a subsequent much more constructive, and better informed, email dialogue, I am still endeavouring to arrange a gig at some future unspecified date in the Berwick/Eyemouth area [they are only eight miles apart]. Now, when I embarked on this increasingly tortuous exercise, one very kind gentleman offered to assist with sponsorship monies. His details are lost to me. This could be of crucial importance, as one option would require my booking [and paying for] the use of a venue, quite apart from Pete's amazingly modest suggested minimum guaranteed fee. Further contact would be more than much appreciated!
