I cannot let johnpharoah's post go without comment.  On Friday night I described The Three Hoseshoes folk club to the other half.  At one time I thought it was the pub outside which Ruth Ellis shot her lover but it wasn't.

I went in the early '80s and remember seeing Harvey Andrews, Peter Bond amongst others which would have been after being able to see Pete playing there.

Thanks to Jan for the set list, as one resident Sussex I feel guilty not knowing that she was there and not being able to offer a roof for the night prior to driving north.  Did you get out of Hove alright through the sea fog that had drifted across the town?

May I say a public thank you to Pete for taking the time to chat and remembering the particular spelling of my surname when I introduced myself.

Though he had no great gifts of personality or mind, he was quite well respected.

It was a bit misty. I didn't actually manage to see the sea at all, just a load of fog. I'm afraid I lost my nerve after misidentifying one MV and didn't go on to accost anybody else that evening!
Perhaps if Pete returns to Hove (or Eastbourne) we could round up a few MVs for a pre gig meal/drink.

Pity I wasn't there, Jan. You could have accosted me in perfect safety. I might even have accosted you.

I really had intended to go, but as it turned out driving down to Hove and back in one evening was just a little bit too much when I had to be at work at 8.30 the next morning. (Yes, I know, that's Saturday morning, but that's the sort of job I have. Only lucky it wasn't 4.30 instead...) But fancy missing the debut of a new song. Rats!

Well, if there was a shortage of the usual suspects, that seems to have been made up for by an influx of new enthusiasm, for I notice two first time posts on this thread. Wonder if they joined MV before or after the gig?

I really must try harder next time, geography permitting.

A big thank to everyone who came to the Eclipse, but the biggest thank of all to Robb for asking me and for being so exceptionally hospitable in every way (as well as to Meeta, Hari, and Arvin, whose poster seems to have done the biz in every way).  As everyone has said, the pub was excellent, and the room upstairs just the right size and with a really good atmosphere.

Interesting that it should have reminded johnpharaoh of the Three Horse Shoes in Hampstead (I think it was three separate words - perhaps it even still is).  I also think I'm right in saying it was the very first folk club I went to for a floor spot and got a gig.  It was easy to get to from Swiss Cottage where a bunch of us were then sharing our first London flat.  And yes, I remember Jock, not leats because he was good enough to book me back there several times over the years, and I even used to go just to see people - I remember the wonderful Famous Jug Band in particular a couple of times (in their post-Clive Palmer phase, which I have to say I always preferred, contrary to the usual view at the time).

Anyway, the Eclipse was a really good place to play and I hope it continues to go well for Robb and all the gang.  Many another thank to everyone, and congratulations to all who won a prize in the raffle, which seemed to be almost everyone.

Hi all

When and where is the next Pete Atkin gig? Could travel to that praps. Was impressed at the Hove gig that someone there had travelled from Nottingham; well I had travelled from Brighton myself.

Have now got all my Pete Atkin Cds-am replaying and talking about whilst my partner shkaes her head in a slightly sad but indulgent manner. I do have a life and am not obsessed. It's juts my lousy memory I told the kid, the things other men forget I still remember.

Oh ****, look at the time on my  Omega Oyster Accutron Incabloc 72- I've got to get to work...

Cheers

The Hove photo obviously didn't work. In theory its available at:

but I can't check because I'm at work and the website is blocked.
(I'm sorry I started this  Sad, I nearly didn't bother, and its not that good a photo)

Jan said I had to put up a comment on Hove, but it's all been said by now.
A fine night and worth the 816 mile round trip (well I did come from Richmond Yorkshire via Taunton). Many thanks to Pete for a great set and for taking the time to chat to us afterwards.

Here's to the next one!

All the best to all Voices,

Nedd.
