Clive does it again.

Very soon after I began reading Clive's essays regularly, his writing was instrumental in turning newly-founded London Review of Books into a less stuffy and altogether more entertaining alternative to the The Times Literary Supplement, and the literary magazine to get hold of.

Now, if my fellow-countrymen Joe Griffin of the online Irish technology and news service magazine, Silicon Republic, is to be believed,  Clive's various contributions appear to be helping to do very much the same kind of thing for the fledgling American online magazine Slate.

It must be rewarding for him to think that even now there are some new furrows left to plough.

I am not sure I would call Slate "fledgling".  It has been around over a decade and I thought ot was pretty well known  Smiley

I think that as an online magazine, it can still be categorised a fledgling. Yes, I should have been clearer about what I actually meant.

This full list of awards  is even more impressive and probably proves your point.

However, I still think that the addition of the likes of Clive and Christopher Hitchins to its  its roster of contributers has given Slate a prestiege that has lacked. It now means that it is in there seriously competing for attention of a readership which would normally buy The New York Review of Books or The New Yorker. Would you agree?
