Having secured his approval for the project, I put together such information as I had on Pete's career in music and his collaborations with Clive James and Julie Covington, his background with Cambridge Footlights, and those long-deleted LPs -- anything I could find that might interest a potential (though improbable) audience, those strange types who remembered, and loved, the songs, and also had access to the Internet -- specifically the rapidly-growing World-Wide Web.
I took as the site's title one of Pete's oxymoronic coinages, 'Smash Flops". Back then Pete didn't have his own Internet domain name, so to maximise visibility via the various search engines of the day I mirrored the site on three domains I had access to, dragonfire.net, pipex.com and rwt.co.uk. Smash Flops went live on July 7th, 1996.
It's grown by a few hundred pages since then: www.peteatkin.com
