Title: Pasting from MS Word Post by Richard Bleksley on Today at 12:17 If I'm going to post a long message I prefer to compose off-line on MS Word and then paste it in. It looks fine on the draft page, but when I preview or post every dash, apostrophe or quotation mark comes out as a 7 or 8 digit stream of gibberish, which I have to go back and alter. To make things worse, I don't seem to be able to edit at the preview stage, only after posting. Any ideas on why this happens and what to do about it? My browser is IE5.00. |

Title: Re: Pasting from MS Word Post by Roger Cornwell on Today at 12:52 I'd echo that — MS Word is using smart quotes which the pasting is turnng into the unicode equivalent. However, it may be that ticking the Disable Smileys: box below could overcome the problem, as that's what I did before pasting the text below into the message. Mac owners may disagree, I don't know. “This is an example of text pasted from MS Word – which uses smart quotes and apostrophes, as well as lengthening dashes. It’s enough to drive a man to drink.” |

Hmm, just tried the 'live preview' feature with IE5.00 (Win 2k). It doesn't seem to work, just opens a blank window, although the help text does work. So live preview needs IE6 (Win XP) I'm afraid. I'll change the note to make that clear. |

Steve - It works in IE 5.5 as well so you'd better change the note again! |
