Title: Pete on Wikipedia
Post by Ian Ashleigh on Today at 23:03
I guess that my fellow MVs have already done this but I put Pete's name into Wikipedia - here is the link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Atkin

The information seems to be reasonably accurate - largely because its taken from Pete's own website

Very impressive Wiki, Ian. If I knew nothing of Pete and I saw this, I'd probably be inclined to investigate more thoroughly.
The only problem I can see (from a proselytising perspective) is how to get people to read this piece.
Regards,
Bob Taylor.

One way of getting people to read about him is to try to make sure that postings to this site either by him or about him come up Google searches, especially Google blog searches.

So, for example, if somebody is searching, let's say, "Antonia Quirke" in the blogosphere today, they will come up with Pete Atkin's posting of yesterday.

Blimey, that was a bit of a shock. I confess that I came to 'Madame Depardieu and the Beautiful Strangers' almost entirely on the grounds of its use of... well, you know. But however ignoble my route to it, my reaction on reading it was ...

A search for "Lennon and McCartney" will get you this miscredited (the Google matrix yields some odd results) entry.

Most cover versions of Lennon and/or McCartney songs have ranged from the bizarrely inappropriate to the just about justifiable of the grounds of sending you back to the original, but I think both of these ( In My Life [and] If I Fell ...

Yes, I realise that you do not score a direct hit that way. In other words, you are not saying to the searcher that he or she must listen to Pete Atkin. What you are doing, though, is putting it out there that if Pete Atkin is someone worth listening to on some a subject that the searcher is interested in - say cover versions of Lennon & McCartney songs - he may be well worth "checking out further".

Getting a reference to the subject in early in a posting is important.
So for example I changed the the subject name of this from Pete on Wikipedia to Pete Atkin on Wikipedia, so that I could get a Google Search for "Pete Atkin" to bring up the following:

PS. The  "More results from Midnight Voices Update" link is a pretty important one too. Just try it, if you have not done so already.
