Title: M. Verlaine
Post by Ian Chippett on Today at 08:35
Went to see the very wonderful John Greaves launching his forthcoming album of settings of Paul Verlaine at a gig near Paris on Friday. Not at all obsolete IMO but you can judge for yourselves if you buy the album (it comes out in February.) A great opportunity to test your French, too. Not a bit like the John Greaves (ex-Cambridge University like Pete but a bit later) some of you may remember from the Henry Cow days. He was backed by an accordionist, a guitarist and a trumpetist who doubled on piano, occasionally simultaneously.

The only other PA connection was that I found myself sitting next to a charming young lady with a fabulous mouth who turned out to be the guitarist's ex-wife. To boldly encounter this creature was well within my power and we had a drink in the bar afterwards but sadly she left with the guitarist.

John Greaves can be seen performing his setting of Verlaine's La lune blanche (http://www.etudes-litteraires.com/forum/sujet-2535-paul-verlaine-bonne-chanson-lune-blanche) live on this You Tube podcast (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3zjK45aRys).

So she alone will not be your last adventure?    ;)

Talking of French poets (both of whom I taught this semester) . . .

You snowed or iced in over there, Bogus?
