You may not know that BBC Two is, on Boxing Day, broadcasting the Royal Opera House's new production of Bizet's masterpiece Carmen - with, utterly wonderful in the two lead roles, Anna Caterina Antonacci as Carmen and Jonas Kaufmann as Don Jose.

Dunno if anyone has seen a trailer on TV. I haven't, but you are reading my trailer now !

I saw the show at Covent Garden this year and was gobsmacked. And I have seen a lot of Carmens (the title role being my favourite to sing).

It's on at 1.45pm, BBC Two, Weds December 26,
preceded by an introductory programme at 1.15pm, BBC Two, with the Royal Opera's music director, Antonio Pappano.

NB: Don't be put off watching by confusing this excellent production with this year's dreadful new one at English National Opera, which I also attended.

Apologies for straying so far off-topic, but it's in a good cause !
