Since Randy Newman came in no 11= in the recent favourite musicians poll, I thought a few others might be as interested as I was to discover that, after all these lucrative years in soundtrack limbo, Mr Newman has made at least a brief return to the kind of songwriting that we've all been missing. The song is called 'A Few Words in Defence [or, more accurately, 'defense'] of our Country' and can perhaps be described as a Bush-inspired update of 'Political Science'. Or something. There's an excellent YouTube live performance available at Newman's website (www.randynewman.com) and it can also be downloaded from iTunes, apparently.
