Title: For Sale
Post by Pete Atkin on Today at 14:33
Aha, you've caught me in the act of virtual narcissism.  Among the usual selection of items on eBay there has just appeared a copy of the RCA CD compilation "Touch Has A Memory" (includes the demo version of THAM itself) -- a bit of a rarity, if I say so myself.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1573&item=4702309101&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Sale ends 27 Feb, starting bid is GBP4.99.

Good to see that an MV won it (nice snipe TC!)  ;)

To save Pete any possible embarrassment of accusations of "virtual narcissism", Atkin completists may like to take note of
this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3880083956&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:UK:1) rather interesting bit of Atkiana.

Cheers

Paul

I expect many of you already keep a regular weather-eye on eBay (hello, Janice!), but in case you forgot, there are some moderately interesting looking items under "Clive James" at the moment -- some of his audiobooks, a signed copy of TBOME, etc., etc.

Hello  Pete!

Lots of Atkin vinyl there, on eBay, at the moment including a promo copy of the single Carnations on the roof/Screen-freak.
There is also a DVD of the Secret Policeman's Ball.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=35016&item=6384185267&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVWI'd
I'd recommend that one to any MV who hasn't seen it. It includes a superb performance of Boney Maronie from Julie Covington with Pete on piano, as well as Pete and Julie singing OOHTNTB and At the hop with the Bowles Brothers. Pete also accompanies Julie in After you've gone and Terry Jones in Forgive me (!!!)

Its got a day and a half to run but the asking price has been bid - £85 (Phew!)
By a Voice?

Strewth and Oo-er, missus.  There's now another copy on eBay with a starting bid of GBP4.99, which at least probably means that whoever offered the eighty five quid is now unlikely to be outbid.   I've put a watch on both, but I hereby give notice that I'll be leaving the way open for others.

Just noticed that a copy of the Fontana BOTBS (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4773827400&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:UK:1) and the RCA DTMA (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4773827447&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:UK:1) have just been put up for sale on ebay by the same seller (bid away, collectors!)

What interests me though is that on the DTMA page the seller appears to have lifted some text from Dave Gelly's 1972 'Cream' review (http://www.peteatkin.com/dtmarevw.htm), without attributing it to him, or changing the wording from the first person, making it appear to be the seller's own words. Of course Dave G could be the seller, for all I know  ;)

I doubt it though, because on the BTBOS page I recognised my own humble PA page (http://www.scrumpyandwestern.co.uk/p-atkin.html) as the source of the text there - guess I should be flattered, really  :)

Cheers to all

Paul

In case anyone's interested: a copy of BCITOYTM (45rpm promo) is for sale on ebay - see here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160044674516&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:UK:1). (Auction ends 30-Oct-06 18:50:35 GMT - starting price 0.99 GBP +shipping - no bids ATOW.)

IIRC this was the only officially released track not made available on CD (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

Cheers

BCWTOYTM is still for sale on ebay but a copy of the AKAN/TROS CD has just finished at £21 and a copy of the BOTBS/DTMA CD at an amazing £51 (20 bids)!

There's a copy of Julie Covington's The Beautiful Changes on Ebay at present.

A copy of the rare Pete Atkin compilation CD Touch has a memory CD has just gone for only £6.50. Looks as though it may have gone to a dealer :-(

A copy of the Secret Drinker/ Live Libel CD was available a week or so ago as a "Buy it now" for only 15 euros. No one bought it so it may reappear. The only snag was that the entire advert was in German. If it appears again I'll post to the list and perhaps someone will translate!

Does anyone know if the Play Away LP Hey you with Julie Covington contains any Atkin material? That's on Ebay at present as well.

I'm never sure whether I should post Ebay stuff to the forum. If an MV is really interested they will be monitoring Ebay themselves and all I will do is encourage competition and thus increase the price  :-/

I have to say I'd be interested to know where the 3 copies of Live In Australia currently being sold cheap on Ebay by tomrec came from.  The listing says most of their CDs are overstocks, but that's a little hard to understand in this case, since this double has not been distributed commercially and has been available only from me (i.e. from the Hillside shop or at gigs).  I guess that's this wonderful biz we call show.

There's a very interesting and rare item on Ebay at present, an almost complete back file of the periodical Vole (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/The-Vole-magazine-2-volumes-in-Binders-1977-1979_W0QQitemZ250087732135QQihZ015QQcategoryZ608QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) which regularly featured articles on Do-it-yourself by one Pete Atkin. All most entertaining and informative!
Last time a file appeared on the market it was priced at around £300, whether this is the same set I don't know. (The ad says that the numbering format is unconventional but it seems depressingly familiar to me.)

Gerry

Aah, no, sorry, it doesn't work like that. The forum doesn't store a value for the number of hits to Jan's message itself, only to its thread as a whole. Jan posted to an (this) old thread, begun by Pete in 2005 -- the 'views' total refers to the entire thread since that time.

To count the number of thread views triggered by Jan's post you'd need to note the 'views' total at posting time and watch it increase.

This reply of mine will now, until someone else replies, show the thread's 'views' total. Yours will have changed to show its number in the sequence of replies.

But you spotted my modification! -- you'll find another small change (on the same theme of providing more access information) it you go to the Members (http://www.peteatkin.com/cgi-bin/mv/YaBB.cgi?action=mlall) page.

Steve

[PS -- of course, if you begin a new thread your message will start with a 'views' total of 1 (because you'll have viewed it) so until there's a reply it'll tell true.]

All becomes clear.  Thank you, Mr Ubermoderator!

Edit subequent to original posting I see that my total number of posts, displayed on the last message I posted above is 67 and that the total number of posts displayed with this message is also 67.  And I see that my post of 26th Jan was also post number 67!  Shome mishtake shurely?

Gerry: Another manifestation of the same principle of economy -- the forum doesn't store your score per message as an ordinal, so the 'Posts:' total, wherever and whenever displayed, is always your total at the moment it's assembled for viewing. Equally there's no history of stars count, display name change, photo or avatar change etc. -- looking back at old messages you'll only ever see the current situation.

I see that there's a copy of the relatively hard to get hold of Touch Has A Memory CD for sale on ebay, and I thought some of you might be interested. See here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Clive-James-Pete-Atkin-Touch-Has-A-Memory-cd-Rare_W0QQitemZ320087945545QQihZ011QQcategoryZ1560QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).

Hope this is of interest to someone here. It has a different version of the title track from the one on the BOTBS album (details in Steve's discography).

Cheers
