It did amuse me that we have a status of 'MV Novice' in the profile.  How many threads do you have to start to be promoted?

None -- you need only post a few messages: this might help you figure out how many, though so far no-one's reached "Fellow" status, or even "Senior member"! See also Moving the goalposts? and FAQ.

Signing into A9.com (with your Amazon.com ID if you have one), also allows you to access a books section and some book references to Pete. For instance, from Iain Bank's novel 'The Bridge' comes this line:- "Most of the tapes he had in the car at the time were Pete Atkin albums, but Clive James's lyrics were too thoughtful and often too melancholic, for a good, fast mindless drive,...."
 
Can't remember if this has been mentioned before. Maybe Pete could head the next road safety campaign .... 'speed kills, listen to Pete Atkin instead.'
