Title: Sony MP3 Walkman advice urgently wanted.
Post by Alex_Gunningham on Today at 19:37
I recently bought a Sony NWZA828K 8GB Video Walkman and want to be able to shuffle music by genre (e.g. folk, country, rock etc.) Can anyone help or suggest a suitable online forum please? A friend of mine who runs a bar wants to be able to use this facility on an MP3 player in her pub to Mollify the Savage Beasts with Soothing Music.

Or can anyone recommend a reliable MP3 player(iPods have a reputation for fragility and shoddiness) suitable for usage in a boozer?

I do hope that this posting goes into the right place, chaps (i.e. not the Pete Atkin board). Apologies if this does go to the wrong place, but this is my first posting.

Many thanks again to all of you who posted kind words last year about my late brother Paul. It was very much appreciated by all the family.

Enjoy the rest of the Summer, One and All.

I have a Creative Zen 30G that seems to be robust.  I've not tried to shuffle by genre but I think you can select by genre so shuffling is the next logical step.

Good luck with your research, and welcome to MV

Hi Alex,

My knowledge of such things does not go terribly deep. However, I have scouted around and come up with something you may care to try.

This, I have to say, does not sound tom me an especially elegant solution, but it's been suggested that you might try making your listings on Windows Media Player 11 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx) and then drag those files into your playlist.

Hi Alex - I use a Sony MP3 player myself, but not this model. (I used to have a 3rd gen iPod, but when the battery stopped taking a charge, I was so angry when the bloke in the Apple shop said "honestly, you'll be better off buying a new one" that I went and bought my Sony immediately and have been enjoying the superior sound and battery life ever since. It may not be as pretty but it works better, IMO.)

I think quite a few (most?) Sony players these days have something called Intelligent Shuffle which allows you to do what I think you're after, i.e. play random shuffle but on the basis of selected tracks, e.g. chosen by genre or artist or a favourites list.  Mine's by no means the latest model, but I hesitate to suggest anything more specifically than that you go through the menus and see if there's anything that looks like that.  Otherwise putting "intelligent shuffle" and the model number into Google may come up with something.

Pete
