Details of Clive's next volume of autobiography, The Blaze of Obscurity - Unreliable Memoirs V, plus Opal Sunset - Selected Poems 1958 - 2008, are both available at the website www.panmacmillan.com

Time was I'd have hesitated to post like this, but the appetite for discussions seems to have waned, so I'll simply say that I hope MVs are enjoying TBOO too much to be bothered with posting.   Most important, don't allow yourselves to think because you've listened to the extracts on Radio 4 that you have indeed read it.  They predictably extracted pretty much just some of the big name stories, but the real enjoyment and satisfaction of the book is in the rest of it.  As always with Clive, there's far more to it all than appears on the surface.   And besides, in the absence of an index you'll be needing to read it in order to pick up the reference to yours truly.

Yes, all of the above is true, Pete. But no index? You just can't get the staff these days, can you?

I know, but I think it's the case that none of Clive's memoirs has had an index.   I believe it used to be the case that an index was a publisher's charge against the author - and, if true, for all I know it still is - but in just about any of Clive's books it would be an interesting and entertaining and even useful addendum.
