Title: Clive's essay on A. D.  Hope in TLS
Post by Kevin Cryan on Today at 16:29
In today's Times Literary Supplement, Clive, in the course reviewing, and revealing some of the inadequacies of, Ann McCulloch's Dance of the Nomad; A study of the selected notebooks of A. D. Hope (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._D._Hope) (Canberra: Pandanus Books.), explains why it was that Hope, who in his very remarkable early output had proved himself to be the most accomplished Australian poet of his generation, found it difficult write anything nearly as good as the early poems that would, for reasons Clive gives, belatedly appear in the 1955 collection, The Wandering Islands.

The whole of Clive's TLS piece is (for a while at least) available here [link] (http://tls.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,25345-2184667,00.html
), and, for those who may be in need of an introduction to Hope and his poetry, I have found a small selection, the link to which I have posted here [link] (http://users.cyberone.com.au/myers/adhope-poems.html)
