Title: Chris Spedding
Post by Ian Chippett on Today at 16:17
<<The release of the fourth album, "The Road of Silk" was accompanied by a promotional tour with a backing band featuring the guitarist Chris Spedding, in contrast to Atkin's usual solo tours.>>

Just read this on Wikipedia: everything elee seems accurate enough but can anyone confirm that Chris Spedding played on tour? If so, who were the others in the band?

P.S. There's a copy of a double CD on Amazon going for a mere £49.99.

Chris Spedding doesn't feature in Pete's touring bands as listed here (http://www.peteatkin.com/pagiglst.htm). In fact Spedding and that star sessionist crowd of AKAN didn't play on TROS at all -- Pete assembled a different bunch of notables for that album, as detailed here (http://www.peteatkin.com/sessiond.htm).

Pete's band on the TROS tour were momentarily called Mama Flyer, and consisted of Les Davidson, Maurice Adamson and Andy Munro. I hope Wikipedia's contributor didn't make the error in interpreting my imprecise wording on the Smash Flops front page -- now it's definitely getting an imminent rewrite!

I don't know but it sounds plausible. Chris Spedding seemed to be on a huge proportion of the records I was listening to in those days, and in particular he was in Pete Brown's Battered Ornaments, which also makes sense because Brown was another very gifted songwriter in something approaching the Clive James category, although of course he didn't have to try so hard for recognition as he had Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton to give him a helping hand!

I think he re-invented himself as a punk a few years later.

Steve's quite right:  the three guys of Mama Flyer were the band for the Road of Silk tour.   The band for the Secret Drinker tour was the same as went on to play on Live Libel.  So, no, no Chris Spedding - only on the recordings of AKAN.  (I'd never have been able to afford him.)
