Title: Nice Weather For Ducks
Post by hannibalmcnee on Today at 18:17
Just heard 'Nice Weather For Ducks' by Lemon Jelly, featuring Pete's guitar riff from 'Pearl Driller'.

I really enjoyed it. Got me thinking about other ways some of the old tracks could be reworked.

I was wondering if anyone else had heard it?

Did that man say Nice Weather for Ducks (http://linuxpunk.net/mp3s/ducks.mp3) by Lemon Jelly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemon_Jelly)? Does this mean we are now going to begin seeking out and listing cover-version of riffs?

It is interesting, though, that it should be one younger and newer members of MV who spotted this particular one.

This was spotted a while back, also by a youngster -- see MV9025 et seq, here (http://www.peteatkin.com/mv/mvdigyr6.php). It seems the riff was imitated, rather than copied (sampled). Flattering, though alas not lucrative.

I got a kick out of it.

Still searching for the fabled Val Doonican 'Flowers and the Wine' cover though.

As you will know, if you've read Andy Love's listing of Atkin/Jamescovers (http://www.peteatkin.com/covers.htm), Val's version The Flowers And The Wine is on his 1980 RCA album Quiet Moments. At least one tape cassette of that recording is avaliable, at £3.99 plus a post and packaging charge of £1, in the Male Vocal section of Classical and Jazz (http://www.classicalandjazz.co.uk)'s website.

Good hunting!!!

I can still remember my astonishment on hearing that particular cover, probably about twenty years ago, at the house of some friends of me and my wife who are not much into music but just put records on for a bit of background.  A Val Doonican album was burbling away (about par for the course for them in those days, though they've progressed a liittle since) and I was trying to ignore it, when this familiar tune started up.  "What is  this?" I thought, suddenly sitting up.  "Val Doonican singing Pete Atkin??  Pull the other one!  This can't be real!"  It was though (of course!).
