Title: A First Folio
Post by hannibalmcnee on Today at 02:20
Someone give me a clue here.

Is there any way - on God's green earth - to get a hold of a copy of the Atkin and James songbook 'A First Folio'?

Hell, I'd even settle for scraps! I've seen the page of Lady Lowness posted on the main site, but it seems like an incredibly sadistic tease to those of us who have dreamed of playing these songs but don't have the knack for doing the whole 'play-by-ear' thing.

Surely there must be a way!

Seriously, now... If I have to go on a Da Vinci code style quest to piece this thing together, I will.

God knows someone ought to!

Got mine on e-bay after having been alerted to its presence by one Mr Crock, who checks on such things now and again.

Mr Crock, eh? Interesting... ((writes name down in notepad))

How much did you have to pay?

Don't forget, there are chord transcriptions for many of Pete's songs on the Smash Flops website, submitted by me and other MV members over the years.  All have been seen and where necessary, amended by Pete.

Lucky old me bought a copy of First Folio in a Leeds music shop c 1974. Held dear to this day. I always hoped there'd be a Second Folio. Hopefully with piano transcriptions for some of the songs from the earlier collections before Road of Silk and Secret Drinker.

Although the website has guitar chords available that doesn't much help those of us who only play the piano, and just from the dots at that! (Blame it on my musical training).

I'd love to see some more Atkin/James piano music. I especially wonder if anyone has available a piano transcription of 'Thirty Year Man' for example?

I think I paid about 15 quid a year or so ago. A bargain at the price.

They're not *just* guitar chords - they apply to keyboards as well! If you know the song, a chord transcription is often all you need to play an acceptable cover - just play around with the chord voicing until it sounds right.

Yes you could.

But I'd rather not.

Realistically, in order to play any of Pete's stuff half-decently, I'd need an actual transcription of the music.

It's a terrible handicap, I know, and it annoys me that there are so many songs out there that I love and can't play, from right across the musical spectrum.

But what REALLY annoys me is the knowledge that there WAS a book of music produced and I CAN'T GET A COPY!

Incidentally, £15 was an incredible bargain, only making me more jealous.

Hmmm.  Check your instant messages and mail me back when you've seen what's there or, seemingly perhaps, not there.

Ha
the mysterious Mr Love speaketh and we are doing well if (in this case) even one Voice understands Andy's words.  When you find out - do let us know what he's on about Hannibal (if you can!!).  :)

Is anyone else with Hanniball McNee...and me...in asking for someone in the very skilled MV universe to come up with actual piano transcriptions for more Atkins/James songs that are NOT in the First Folio book?

I'm also of the opinion that simply following guitar chord leads is just not enuff for us piano players. Don't shoot me!

I, too, await developments with interest. And, although I received permission to do what I have done, I think Instant Messaging is the way to go with this one.

['Course, I could just be racking up spurious messages in pursuit of my coveted third star... ]

I see your dirigible has left her berth, Curly. I wish her a safe journey   ;)

John,

I think yer man himself recently invited requests for same, having just acquired some spiffy music software. There is a short thread somewhere in this forum.

Message found and replied to, sir.

Though I was a mite slow on the uptake.
