Title: Rob Buckman
Post by Pete Atkin on Today at 09:58
My old chum Rob, with whom I shared a three-years-apart birthday, sadly died last weekend, in his sleep on a plane that was just about to land back in Toronto, his home for the last several years.  Cause of death is uncertain at the moment, but I'll be surprised if it doesn't track back to the dermatomyositis that nearly killed him in the mid-1970s and the spinal cord problems he suffered some years later.

There are obits already in Canadian newspapers, and I do know that (Python) Terry Jones is writing one for the Guardian (he and Rob had been working together recently on some short films).  The main emphasis is rightly on his reputation as an oncologist and as a humanist, but the Footlights background and influence inevitably creeps in.   My 70s albums were all made while I was sharing a flat and then a house with Rob and a bunch of others, including Clive, of course.

That is very sad news.

Sad indeed. Rob was so gifted with wit, intelligence, passion and energy; I thought he would outlive all of us.

Here (http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/oct/12/rob-buckman) is his Guardian obituary by Terry Jones, with a contribution from Dai Davies.

Very sad news.  Peter, Rob Buckman's brother, is my agent and I was fortunate enough to meet him very briefly at a party over the summer.  He seemed a delightful man, admirable both personally and professionally.
